The number 47 has been deliberately used in Star Trek: The Next Generation by show story writer Joe Menosky after Donald Bentley, a professor at Pomona College "demonstrated" that all numbers are equal to 47. This was of course a joke proof, but since then it has been a favorite number of Pomona College and was used by Jow Menosky extensively.
